Let’s make this simple. No detailed stories or fancy words today. Easy concept, easy pictures.
Weekends are a bit anti-climactic for me right now. The Bod is working 70 hour weeks, which means he’s also putting in 12 hours every Saturday, and as a result he’s (understandably) a zombie come Sunday. This also means there’s no husband help around the home on weekends, and no time away from the kids, which results in my equal exhaustion. But we still want to go on dates together, so the all-glorious couch dates have become our sweet sweet heaven.
Adult time is the best. It’s the top priority. I don’t think I need to preach this either, I’m quite confident you all know what I’m talking about and feel the same way.
One thing is bound to always make the moment feel really special and indulgent: A good cheese platter. Sigh… I’d prep one every night if I weren’t watching both my budget and my weight! For the complete deal it should include fresh berries, light salty crackers, thin slices of prosciutto, and as many varieties of real aged cheese as possible. Oh dear, and for the final bite of the night after it all: a smooth square of rich dark chocolate!
Now open a couple bottles of fizzy drinks, climb under that super soft blanket, and turn on your favorite show. In the words of Liz Lemon, “I want to go to there…”
**The List of Cheeses pictured, selected to cover a broad range of flavors, regions, & textures, clockwise direction starting with the orange crusted cheese: Port Salut, English Cheddar Smoked Illchester Applewood, Windsor Red, Emmenthaler, Italian Fontina & Gruyere.

This is my dream date night treat. Thank you for proving to us date nights should be this special. Can I see another type of meat in the middle of the platter? what is it?
Good eye you have there! It’s deli sliced chicken breast. It pairs nicely with some of the cheeses that are stronger in flavor.
What a great way to amp up couch night (which is NOT that hard to amp). The hubb-a-bubb is going to thing I’m the coolest wife ever when I pull this one!
love it!! this is way better than chips and cookies which sometimes is the usual! I love the suggestion of hummus and tadziki from Susan too! I think I am going to buy one of those platters today to make it more fun! I know you can get one simular at walmart for a dollar!
Wow that cheap? I need to get one of my own then since I was borrowing a family members’ that night. THanks for the tip.
I once went to a rather fancy restaurant in Montreal where they serve a selection of cheeses after the meal. They were all laid out in a spiral and the waiter was adamant that they be eaten in the right order to get the most out of each one! And woebetide anyone who tried to take the rind off of the Brie!
another nice platter could be hummus, pita bread, sun dried tomatoes, tzadziki,an assortment of olives and veggies!
I´ve made it a point to start knowing a bit more about cheeses and it´s so interesting, besided fattening and expensive… I love a good cheese and fruit dinner!
Little by little you’ll start gathering favorites and be so happy you wanted to know more about cheese. It creeps up on you and becomes something wonderful
Looks and sounds delectable!I bet Phil didnt eat the Swiss!
Yep he stayed away from the Emmental, very similar to swiss. He was laughing at my enthusiasm.
