Don’t you just love the holiday season? I know that most of us complain about cold weather, lots of snow or rain, but it really is a great time of year! There is always some grand holiday around the corner to prepare for and enjoy!
I know it can become a bit of a stressful time preparing everything, trying to make it as special as possible. I guess the trick is to know how to keep some sort of balance and really make the holidays a great experience for everyone… including yourself!
I know this took my mom yeeeeeears to get down! We now have it in our family where my mom is not allowed to plan meals or clean up anything-unless she wants to. All of us ‘kids’ and spouses plan, prepare and divide chores at holiday gatherings to take the load off my mom.
This was something my dad thought up a couple years back and it works so great. For the first few years it was still difficult for my mom to just simply relax! All these years of bustling around being a ‘one man band’ was all that she knew how to do, and it took some practice and a little enforcement on our side to ‘make her’ enjoy herself and just do as she pleased…play with the grandkids, sit and chat, work on a puzzle… whatever, as long as she was enjoying herself.
Having my own little family and seeing from the prospective of a mother, I realize how much I took for granted growing up. It really makes me feel bad that I didn’t say thank you a million times a day to her.
I am always brought back to reflect on this as the holidays role around and I think of everything she did to make it special… and realize how much time and energy she put into it. The only fault I can give my mom is she had a difficult time relaxing herself and so I know that the trick is to find ways to make the holidays a great time for everyone including yourself!
I have seen the ways other mom’s make things easier on themselves, in the holidays and one simple thing that takes hours and hours off of your ‘to do list’ is simply buy some items instead of make them! Let’s face it… all holidays are basically based around food. If there was no food it would make for a pretty awful gathering- agree?
FineFoodSpecialist.co.uk is an amazing site where you can buy all sorts of specialties for the holidays or any type of special occasion. It is a one-stop shop where you could find anything and everything you need to make an occasion more special.
There are a million different things on FineFoodSpecialist.co.uk s that I am dying to try, and that is not even including the gift hampers and ideas the site also provides. Simply browsing their site for inspiration is worth checking it out.
My family is spread out everywhere and so ordering a gift online and having it directly sent is also sometimes really handy and always makes for a special gift. This site is a great way to add some flare to your holiday table or give a great gift, and to take a care of a few items that you would have otherwise spent slaving away at in the kitchen.
Don’t get me wrong… I love the homemade baking and cooking, but we really do need to find a balance because lets face it, when we try to do everything we end up missing out on the more important things like spending times with our loved ones. At least that is my two cents.
What do you think? What do you do for the holiday season to create a special time and yet make it enjoyable for yourself as well? If you have some tips and ideas don’t hesitate to share! There is nothing greater than discovering someone else’s idea that makes your life that much better!
Let the holidays roll on! Thanks for stopping by and Happy Holidays!
